Last week in our AMA, while talking about vaults coming to Rayls, I shared an update on the $RLS unlock schedule. Today I want to set it out in full.

Our investors and team have agreed to keep their $RLS locked for longer. The big unlock planned for December 2026 is cancelled. Instead, their tokens will unlock in equal amounts every month for four years, starting in May 2027.

Together with Parfin's lock-up extension, announced in August, this means 1.12 billion fewer $RLS will unlock through 2027, and we expect 23.4% less $RLS in circulation at the end of 2027.

Here is where the 1.12 billion comes from:

WhoFewer $RLS unlocking through 2027
Investors and team769.0 million
Parfin (August update)355.7 million
Total1,124.7 million

Fewer tokens unlocking means fewer tokens in circulation. Circulating supply is the $RLS that is unlocked and free to trade. Here is how it changes at the end of 2027:

Circulating $RLS at the end of 2027 (projected)
Original plan4.81 billion
New plan3.69 billion
Difference1.12 billion fewer (23.4% less)

Put simply: for every 100 $RLS that would have been in circulation, there will now be 77.

What is changing

Until now, investors and team had a "cliff": one date when a large block of tokens unlocks at once. Theirs was December 2026. Here is the old plan next to the new one:

Investors and teamBeforeNow
Unlock at the December 2026 cliff467.6 million $RLSCancelled
Unlocks during 2027954.6 million $RLS653.2 million $RLS
Total unlocked through 20271,422.2 million $RLS653.2 million $RLS (54.1% less)

That is 769.0 million fewer $RLS from investors and team through 2027. In short:

  • More than half a billion $RLS stays locked in December 2026. That is 467.6 million from investors and team, plus 108.1 million from Parfin.
  • Monthly unlocks from May 2027. From 1 May 2027, 1/48 of each investor and team allocation unlocks every month (81.7 million $RLS in total), with the last release in April 2031.
  • Parfin's allocation unlocks a year later. As announced in August, Parfin postponed its token unlock from December 2026 to December 2027 and moved 1.07 billion $RLS into a non-upgradeable lock-up contract on the Rayls Public Chain.
  • Team tokens move into an onchain lock. The team's tokens will be locked in a smart contract on the Rayls blockchain, like Parfin's, so anyone can check them.
  • The maximum supply stays at 10 billion $RLS. Fees have been used to buy back and burn 58,527,173.39 $RLS so far, so total supply is now 9,941,472,826.61 $RLS, as shown on the Rayls Transparency Portal.

What it means for $RLS circulation

With fewer tokens unlocking, less new $RLS reaches the market through 2027.

It also means there is no single big unlock day. New tokens arrive in monthly steps instead.

This sits alongside the mechanisms already built into Rayls tokenomics. Half of the fees from Rayls networks are used to buy $RLS and burn it, and the other half goes to validator rewards and community growth. You can read more in our post on buybacks, burns and the Rayls Reserve.

Why this matters

Our investors and team chose to push their unlocks back, just as Parfin did in August, because they are in this for the long run.

For the community, it means the people who backed Rayls early and the team building it do well only if Rayls does well over the next few years, not on a single unlock date. We are on the same side as everyone else holding $RLS.

None of this changes what we are working on. We are building infrastructure that banks and other regulated institutions can use in production, and bringing more real activity onto the Rayls Public Chain.

We are updating the public sources for the $RLS supply so anyone can check the new schedule:

If you missed the AMA, you can watch the recording, where I talk through the change and answer questions from the community.

Thank you to our investors and team for this commitment, and to the community for your continued support.
